SYNOPSIS

The book is a profusely illustrated journey with archival and current images. The first chapters are dedicated to the Ensesa family and the birth of S’Agaró, Rafael Masó’s urbanization project, the nineteenth-century garden city, the first Hostal de La Gavina, the S’Agaró School and Hotel, the Baños de Sant Pol, the years of the Civil War, and the architects who worked there after Masó, such as Folguera, Florensa, and Sibils. The book also discusses S’Agaró’s international projection after the war, with chapters dedicated to tourism, festivals, sports, cultural activities, music and fashion festivals, cinema and television, as well as politics and the economy over the last decades.

The edition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the S’Agaró 100 Association, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Girona, the City Council of Castell d’Aro – Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró, and the Rafael Masó Foundation.
